After graduating from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia (with a major in language and literature), Fitsum embarked on his career path in community development efforts with international NGOs; as he has always had the desire to boost his knowledge on global development. He served in different capacities to change the lives of communities in Ethiopia. IPPAM helped him achieve his goals by exposing him to experiences gathered from different parts of the world. It handed him the tools to understand policies in various aspects that can matter in his day to day life. In addition, it helped him to develop a grasp of knowledge about the nonprofit sector and its emerging new concepts and operations. IPPAM also provided various domestic and international networking opportunities and events relevant to Fitsum’s experience which ranged from policy issues, to business and the public sector. Among the IPPAM faculty, Professor Rym Kaki had the biggest impact on him. Professor Rym Kaki’s deep knowledge of multidisciplinary topics helped him expand his knowledge and challenged his way of thinking! “My favorite aspect of IPPAM program would be the vast pool of professional network and institutions where students gain practical experience along learning theory. Prospective graduate students should consider IPPAM especially if they desire to gain practical international knowledge.”

Yasser Ali was an English teacher before joining IPPAM. When he had the opportunity to do a master’s degree in the U.S. he chose to pursue his master’s in IPPAM to acquire managerial knowledge and skills related to the education field. Yasser’s second goal to choose IPPAM was to strengthen and widen his leadership skills. He planned to rediscover his talents, his potentials, and himself. IPPAM program was the best choice for him. Not only did he discover the new self, but also he learned how to apply his knowledge and skills in real life. Coming back from IPPAM journey, Yasser started his new career as a high school principal in Futures Educational System. It was a big challenge for him as he had never been a manager before that. IPPAM experience taught him a lot; especially being the senate President of IPPAM 14. He had the opportunity to learn to organize a team, choose the best candidates for tasks, and create harmony within a team. With good teamwork, cooperation, and persistence, Yasser made great progress in his education career, not only in school leadership; also staff and students’ mentality and character. He has made many breakthroughs, but the most critical impact he has made is creating a supportive work environment and new work mentality for his school team.
Yasser is now a principal of a new language school in Cairo. The school serves some of the unprivileged population. It provides a good education with affordable cost to many of the so-called struggling layers, especially during the pandemic. The newly established school needs a lot of knowledge and system to rise and stand among the giants’ schools, which have been there for decades. It is a big challenge, but Yasser was trained to do in IPPAM and his life.
